The 2018 season has started!
Wednesday 25 April was well and truly a day of April showers, with bright sunshine only making occasional appearances between heavy downpours including hail. Nevertheless we managed to cut, roll, mark and cover the pitch and - remarkably - had good weather for our opening game of the evening season against Shepton Montague, with a sharp moon and a rainbow to brighten the blue sky..
Fonthill lost the toss and bowled first. The first wicket of the season was taken (for the second year running) by Jonnie Power from the Beckford end, and further wickets fell, with (s)kipper Ashley Major finishing with wickets from the last two balls of the innings. Some big hitting and some not-taken chances enabled the visitors to get to 105.
After an excellent start from Murray and Rawlinson, scoring 32 off the first three overs, their luck ran out and wickets began to fall. The result was that what had seemed like a gettable target, was not quite got, with Fonthill finishing on 84. A creditable effort, played with a great team spirit and humour as everyone was glad to be playing cricket again, but with much to improve on for the forthcoming games.
