Fonthill comes good at last

After a good soaking on Thursday, more heavy rain, thunder and lightning threatened the two bank holiday games, but we managed to prepare a decent pitch for touring visitors Trinity Oxley. Trinity batted first but, thanks to some efficient ground fielding, some tight bowling especially from Andrew Snell (4-30) and Charlie Knight (1-19), and some great catches by Chris Dean and Simon Davies, were kept to 151 for 8.

Fonthill responded with a good start from Rupert Murray (18) and Archie Moore (7) seeing off some very accurate bowling to set a platform for Chris Dean (55 not out) and Jon Sealy (54 not out) to steer us through to vistory with some composed batting, and an over and seven wickets to spare. Trinity were kind enough to award their champagne moment honour to Charlie Knight for his excellent bowling spells from both ends. This presents his parents with the challenge of storing unopened yet another bottle of fizzy wine until his 18th birthday.

There were some strong individual performances, but above all this was a great all-round team effort where everyone contributed to achieve our first win of the season against strong cricketing opposition in a good match which could have gone either way. It has been a long wait, so well played team!
