End of Season 20:20 and Awards

The 2018 season finished in fine style withan in-house 20:20 match, followed by a barbecue (thanks to Mr Sam Millichamp of Tisbury) and Captains’ presentations. Midweek captain Ashley Major’s Midweek Marauders XII beat James Parton’s Weekend Warriors XI by 20 runs in a closely-fought but good-spirited game. It was great to welcome back some old stalwarts who have not been able to play much this season, such as Andrew Snell, Gabriel Sayles, Jonnie Power and Angus Cowan who all showed that the “old magic was still there”. And it was also encouragingly healthy to be able to finish this most enjoyable season with 23 players turning out for this game.

Awards were made to Josh White for batting which had included some huge sixes, Ray Hayne for bowling and Tim Jones for fielding. Rupert Murray was named as Player of the Year, having been the only person to score a century for the Club this season, and in fact scoring two, and for his consistency with the bat and as a fielder. Archie Moore was given the Junior Player of the Year award recognising his contributions with bat, ball and in the field.

In recognition of her outstanding enthusiasm and invaluable contribution to the Club this year behind the bar, organising barbecues and not least as Club Treasurer, the award of Club Member of the Year was made to Karen Knight.

There were seven nominations for the season’s “Champagne Moments”:-

  1. Dave Roberts for his lightning quick catch at square leg back in May;

  2. James Parton's diving, one-handed, LEFT-handed catch against North Harrow off Archie Moore's bowling;

  3. Darren Andrews for his very sharp low down catch at square leg to dismiss the in-form Port Rejects opener;

  4. James Parton's spectacular feet-off-the-ground overhead catch at long on against The Boot;

  5. Josh White's hook for six off a bouncer vs Port Rejects;

  6. Dave Roberts' reckless call for a single leading to Holly White being cruelly run out off her second ball;

  7. FPCC’s win against Chilmark in August.

Chairman Eric Tracey’s adjudication was to award the bottle of fizz to Dave Roberts for his catch.
