Big Bash- Charity 8-a-side

Thanks to everyone who participated in making this year’s Big Bash such a success.   The great event took place on 20 June: midsummer. The weather was good, and the atmosphere was great with plenty of  people watching as well as playing.   A huge thanks to Howard and Alison Smith for setting up and running the barbecue, and to everyone who helped Tim Jones behind the bar. These are two very important ingredients in making the day a success.   It is not just selling drinks, but also re-stocking the fridges, collecting and washing dirty glasses, collecting and crushing cans and bagging up bottles and cans ready for people to take home for recycling.

Thanks too to everyone who donated raffle prizes, including Stone Daisy Brewery, and everyone who sold and bought raffle tickets, especially Bexi Harris who did more than her fair share.   Also to all members and friends who chipped in and helped with the above and also the considerable clearing-up jobs at the end.

With money raised from players’ match fees, barbecue, raffle and bar profits, the Club is  able to make donations of £320 to each of our three charities - Wilts and Bath Air Ambulance, Seeds4Success and Solent Mind.

As for the cricket, five teams took part in this 8-a-side tournament, with innings limited to just 6 overs.   Over 1300 runs were scored and the league table turned out as follows:

Wardour Warriors P4 W4 L0 Pts 8 Pos 1st

Chilmark P4 W3 L1 Pts 6 Pos 2nd

New Kids in the Park P4 W2 L2 Pts 4 Pos 3rd

Old Fonthillians P4 W1 L3 Pts 2 Pos 4th

Dorset Knockers P4 W0 L4 Pts 0 Pos 5th

So Wardour Warriors won the cup and Dorset Knockers won the Wooden Spoon (see captain Jim Chetwode using it to play air guitar in top picture).
